CLEARFreight, Inc. was founded in San Francisco in 1973 as a business specializing in U.S. Customs
Brokerage and related import services. Over the years we have continually strived for excellence and
achieved steady growth. Our success is due to constant emphasis on staff professionalism, coupled with
innovative procedures and technology.
Many of our employees started their careers with CLEARFreight and after long term training and
development programs, now form the backbone of supervision, technical and customer service functions.
We speak, read and write most Asian and European languages, which enables us to deal effectively with
clients and documents worldwide.
In 1975, we opened a second office in Los Angeles, which is now the location of our corporate
headquarters. In 1985, in response to the needs of existing clients, we launched our export division,
and began offering outbound transportation services in addition to import traffic and brokerage.
Since then, we have developed a solid export/forwarding department with all the resources necessary
to provide a full range of export and import transportation services.
In order to achieve a stronger long-term financial foundation for growth and development, in February
1992 CLEARFreight became a subsidiary of Sankyo Transportation Co. Ltd., a Japanese logistics
firm specializing in brokerage, freight forwarding, warehousing and terminal operations worldwide.
CLEARFreight added offices in Seattle in 1992, Detroit in 1996, and Chicago in 1998.We opened
offices in Rotterdam in 1999, and Amsterdam and New York in 2000, to further expand our service to
shippers in the US and consignees throughout Europe. Our Miami branch office opened in 2001 to serve
shippers and consignees to and from South and Central America. Our West Coast offices continue to
provide close links to Asia and the rest of the world. Our own office in Tokyo opened mid-2004.
We are thus equipped to serve clients globally with a full range of international logistics services.
CLEARFreight has innovated wherever possible to produce better capacity, productivity and customer
service. In 1979 we were on the leading edge of systematic transition to automation in all functional
areas, and ClearFreight has stayed on the forefront of technology, always one of the first to embrace
new programs. We are active participants in ABI, Automated Broker Interface; ACH, Automated Clearing
House; AMS, Automated Manifest System; and AES, Automated Export System. We also offer the latest in
Track and Trace technology. Today we operate as a truly electronic office, all office employees have
their own computer terminals with internet access from which they generate documentation, monitor
shipment status, and communicate with customers, foreign agents, service providers, and each other.
In addition, we are a certified member of C-TPAT, the Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism.
